Millions of acres of rangeland in the US may hold the key to reducing carbon and greenhouse gasses, currently thought to be causing climate changes and severe weather patterns affecting our enviroment!

With global warming on everyones mind government and industry have been trying to figure out new ways to control this growing threat to present and future generations. The climate appears to be changing and if it does it will affect everyone. This website is not for proving or dis-proving global warming it is for showing you our solution and concern!

What We Do

Carbon Dioxide or greenhouse gas is being blamed for the warming of our planet. This global warming trend is melting vast sheets of our polar region sending hugh chunks of ice out to sea. This warming also is affecting our weather as severe storms, flooding and hurricanes seem to be on the rise. This trend must be stopped or our entire coast-lines may forever change.

Being a farmer/rancher myself I have noticed several things that make me worry. FIrst the weather patterns are no longer stable. Our area has had everything from cold temperatures in the spring to severe flooding washing away old well established roads. Amazingly  the fall is getting nearly as cold as the spring was. This could get serious as many crops are not ready for frost. If a frost hit early corn and millet would be severely affected.

Although in a long story I talk about later I have found we have a source for helping control this substance known as greenhouse gas. Carbon comes in many forms including dioxide and monoxide known in the trade as NOX. Dioxide is clear and odorless while monoxide will make your eyes water and is visible. Monoxide wasn't introduced into our atmosphere in any great quantity until the industrial revolution. Then giant steam powered engines and coal burning factories poured great amounts of heavy carbon or NOX into the atmosphere.   These heavy elemets are even better known as SMOG.

Great strides have been made since then for cleaning up the smoke stacks that once polluted everything. Now is it enough? Just look around each day and take notice of everything happening. Trucks, cars, jets and numerous other machines are pouring NOX into the air.

Since no one will give up these things we have to find ways to offset them. True cars are getting cleaner but just take a breath behind the exhaust pipe. No don't - it's nasty!

This year I had the opportunity to read a short story on carbon credits. I had no clue what this was so I did some investigating. What I found out changed my whole attitude, and now I will tell you why.

Recently grassland has become a source for controlling greenhouse gases. It is my understanding one acre of well managed grassland may absorb up-to one ton of carbon dioxide per year, according to the newly formed Chicago Climate Exchange, on there carbon sequestration chart.

This Exchange trades Carbon Credits much the same as any other commodity or stock market exchange. The purpose is that one company can reduce carbon Emissions and sell that reduction to another company wanting to expand or who may-not be able to install new expensive equipment. What we are doing should reduce 'lock-up' carbon for decades to come!
